Shelley Browning Dressage

Shelley Browning has been riding her entire life, and has rode and competed in hunter/jumpers, three-day eventing, and dressage events and competitions for over 50 years, and has nothing but respect and admiration for the honor and professionalism of the sport.

She has owned all her horses from her first mount, purchased by her father from a backyard in Sylmar, California, to her current horse purchased in Holland two years ago, and, like most riders she knows and has cherished every one of them. To say that her horses, including of course, Vorst D, are loved and respected as family members, and well-treated would be an understatement.

Shelley Browning Dressage feeds her horses special food, fits them with special shoes, turn out privileges, roomy box stalls, covered areas, regular training, high-end care from dedicated experts, vets, and teachers.  Over her years of riding, her respect for the judges and administrators of the sport has also been a constant.

Shelley has owned the following horses during her dressage career:
  • High society 3rd level dressage horse from 2000-2007
  • Wradger Grand Prix dressage horse used for 4th level and Prix St George from 2007-2012
  • Comtessa Bycht from 2012-2015; Grand Prix horse showed intermediate 1 and 11
  • Bright Lights from 2015-2017; Prix St. George horse
  • Vorst D from 2017-current

Shelley Browning describes dressage as the art of riding and training a horse in a manner that develops obedience, rhythm, relaxation, connection, impulsion, straightness, and collection. Dressage is an Olympic sport and is also included as a discipline in the Olympics for 3-day eventing, (which includes dressage, cross-country, and stadium jumping over 3 days of competition).
